A police spokesman says there is still some question about what kind of gas was involved in the leak. A hazardous materials team from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department is on site.

a tractor punctured a chlorine gas container on the property of Newco Metal early this afternoon. The incident closed Robin Hood Bay Road, from Logy Bay Road to East White Hills Road, and sent two people to hospital, while emergency crews worked at the scene. The area was evacuated.
a HAZMAT team has brought the situation under control, but the area will remain contained and the road will remain closed until the situation is fully resolved.
