Your Firefighter’s are part of the community

 

This past year was an extremely busy one for your local Firefighters. Not only were we busier than ever responding to numerous structure fires, car accidents, medical emergencies and various other emergencies such as Haz-Mat incidents, high angle, confined space and cold water rescues. We also spent time training our executive to better serve our members, lobbied for better safety regulations, both for our members and the public and worked to better get our message out to the public. Our members gave freely of their time to raise funds and awareness for various local community based charities.

January –

February –

    • St. John’s Fire Fighters win First Annual Battle of the Badges “Reason For The Rink” Outdoor hockey classic
  • Local 1075 President awarded Harvard-Ottawa Executive Leadership Program Scholarship

March –

  • Local Firefighters host 5th Annual Shave For the Brave for Young Adult Cancer

April –

  • Local members rally to display our concern regarding HSC paramedic shortage
  • Local sends delegates to the IAFF Canadian Legislative Conference in Ottawa
  • May –
  • Local sends delegates to Atlantic Provinces Professional Fire Fighters Association Training Seminar in Truro
  • June –
  • Local signs new Collective Agreement with cityJuly –
  • SJRFD has first Fire Chief in 15 years
  • Local sends delegates to 52nd International Association of Fire Fighters Biennial Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio

  • New Deputy Chief for SJRFD

  • St. John’s Fire Fighters rise to ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
  • New West Fire Station officially opens

September –

  • Local attends annual Labour Day BBQ
  • Firefighters thanked by man they rescued
  • 2nd Annual SJRFD Truck Pull for MD a success
  • Local F/F’s train for helicopter rescueNovember –
  • Local members attend NL Federation of Labour Convention
  • Local Firefighter to enter Combat Challenge Hall of Fame
  • Off Duty Firefighter uses AED to save hockey players life
  • Association donates AED to local charitable organization

  • Association produces Holiday Fire Safety Video
  • Firefighters raise money for Children’s Wish

  • Local firefighters donate turkey’s to CBC Turkey Drive
  • Local 1075 members man Salvation Army Kettle to raise money for the less fortunate at Christmas
  • St. John’s Firefighters support VOCM Toy Drive
  • Local Firefighter’s union donate money to Salvation Army
  • St. John’s Firefighter’s have another successful Adopt a Family for Christmas Program
